Just bought a new PC laptop and it won’t let me use it unless I create a Microsoft account, which also means giving their AI access to my computer! This is messed up. There used to be an option to skip signing into or creating a Microsoft account. Are you seeing this too? »

Can we still set up Windows 11 using a local account ? Perhaps something changed from my last test.

So, here is my test to try to use Windows 11 without a Microsoft account.

Thanks to Microsoft EMEA GBS to let me participate in the year 2014 to the Insider project during my work. Then, This Windows test project, here in version 11, is based on the cycle of the insider Preview Builds, now in the Dev Channel: it is fun to test the new features. I start the PC while inserting the Windows 11 insider dev 26058 ISO DVD.

The local account is created. So now i can answer the question of Elon musk: yes we can configure Windows 11 without a Microsoft account.

I continue this setup to see the start menu

Next screen i choose 3 security questions

I choose location : YES and accept

Find my device : YES and accept

Send diagnostic : include Optional, Accept

Get tailored experience with diagnotic data : YES and accept

Choose your settings, then select Accept to save them. Check the Learn more link or info on these settings, how to change them, how Microsoft Defender SmartScreen works, and the related data transfers and uses.
